About game

In Shogi: Japanese Chess, players alternate turns, with white moving first. A turn consists of moving one of your pieces to a legally available space according to the rules or placing a captured piece from reserve onto the board. When pieces enter the opponent's territory, they can be promoted, which means flipping them over to indicate their new, stronger form. All pieces except the king and the gold general can be promoted. The objective is to checkmate the opponent's king, meaning the king is under attack and cannot escape or defend itself. You can play against AI, with another person on the same device, or compete online in multiplayer mode.

How to play

The king can move to adjacent squares in any direction, except for those threatened by the opponent's check. The rook glides horizontally and vertically across any number of unoccupied squares. The elephant moves diagonally across any number of empty squares. The golden general has the option to move one square horizontally, vertically, or diagonally forward. The silver general can step one square diagonally in any direction or one square forward vertically. The horse makes a unique move: it first goes one square straight forward, then shifts one square diagonally to the side. The spear moves strictly forward, vertically along any number of vacant squares. A pawn advances one square directly forward and captures enemy pieces that are located right in front of it, not diagonally as in chess.
